VOTING UPDATE:

Regarding the important bond issue to build a new elementary school and renovate the Middle/ High School, here is updated information.

 

-There will be NO in person voting for the original March 17th primary.

-Voting now will close April 28th at 7:30pm and be via mail in absentee ballot only.

-If you have already voted absentee or in person at the Board of Elections, your vote will count and no further action is needed.

-If you have not voted, an absentee ballot must be requested by April 25th.  Once you receive the ballot in the mail, it must be filled out and mailed back in the self addressed stamped envelope provided by the county board of elections.  Ballot must be received at the county board of elections by 7:30 on April 28th, 2020.

 

Q: What is this bond issue for?

  • Construction of a NEW Williamsburg Elementary School at the site of the old high school. Save and restore the front facade with this renovated portion being included into the new build.

  • Construction of a secondary gymnasium/multipurpose area at the Williamsburg Middle/High School

  • 21st-Century additions at the Middle/High School including safety, technology and career lab space

  • Replacement of failing HVAC/Controls and other inefficient energy systems at the Middle/High School

  • Replace the 24 year-old roof, windows and fixtures at the Middle/High School

  • Maintenance fund to preserve and protect these community investments

Q. What is the difference between a bond issue and an operating levy?

  • The bond issue can only be used for capital improvements such as constructing school facilities; renovating, improving and constructing additions to school facilities, including safety and security improvements; furnishing and equipping the facilities; improving the sites of the buildings; and acquiring land and interests in land

  • The operating levy generates revenue for the school district’s general fund, which pays for the operations of the school district including classrooms, support for classrooms, utilities, business operations, transportation services and everything in between
